Pete Batard launched the Rufus application in 2011 as a free bootable, open source DOS USB dongle to replace HUDSFT. It has been updated many times over the years, and by 2020 it will be more stable and up to date than ever. The most notable changes are updates for UEFI startup, ISO images and Windows in Action.

What’s Rufus?

Rufus can even format USB sticks so you can easily boot a computer with a damaged or missing operating system. It can create installation files from bootable ISO files, especially from operating systems such as UEFI, Linux and MS Windows. You can also use it to flash the BIOS or other DOS firmware. In the past, it was common to burn ISO files to CD/DVD using common programs such as CDBurnerXP or InfraRecorder.

As technology evolved, Pete Batard decided to develop a USB installation program when he got tired of proprietary software. HUDSFT was in fact limited in some functions, so it promised to create a clone of the tool that could be made available free of charge. Many critics praise the benefits of using Rufus as a bootable USB tool. One of the most remarkable aspects is the constant updating of the program, which keeps it up to date.

Can Rufus multiboot via USB?

On the website, the creator stated that Rufus was created to create a single USB installation for the operating system. It was also announced that there are no plans to update the application with multi-boot processing. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do it with a wand. In order to function as a multi-boot USB, you need an even larger USB stick.

You can easily follow the same steps to create a USB drive that can be booted with Rufus and then copy your ISO images to a multi-boot drive. Then simply plug Rufus USB back in, choose a different operating system and view the application format of the drive in preparation for the new operating system. You can copy the new files to a separate folder on the Multiboot drive.

Easily create a new USBoperating system installer.

Although the Rufus process may seem complicated at first, it becomes easier in practice. You can use the tool to create a multi-boot device on different hard drives that can offer higher speeds and even more storage space. If you are unable to boot your computer or if your operating system is damaged, use Rufus to create a portable boot system.
