When it comes to streaming, many people associate it with piracy and illegal activities. Although many websites use torrents to download copyrighted media for illegally distributed content.

However, it is also used to transfer (or share) large files over the Internet. Linux uses z. B. a torrent to send operating system packages to end users.

So if you use a torrent to share large files, you don’t have to worry, because it’s a legitimate way.

Please note, however, that you will be sued if you use a torrent to share copyrighted media.

Suppose you downloaded a torrent and started using it, but the download takes hours, sometimes even days? At this point you need to know a few tips and tricks to anchor your uTorrent download.

In this article we will look at some ways to speed up uTorrent downloads.

We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the safety measures described below before starting work.

Your Internet browsing is fully visible and accessible to Internet Service Providers (ISPs). These companies may legally sell your personal information (or data) to third parties.

When you use uTorrent to download and share data, it becomes necessary to make a backup.

We recommend connecting to a VPN in these scenarios. A VPN encrypts your Internet connection and changes your IP address so that ISPs cannot identify your activities.

Tips to speed up downloading UTorrent

uTorrent is available for Mac, Windows and Linux. There are free and paid subscriptions, but with the free version you can share large files online.

For beginners we hope you know how to use uTorrent.

Let’s definitely look at the different ways to fix uTorrent downloads.

Adding an exception for uTorrent in Windows Firewall

If you try to install uTorrent on your desktop, you will be asked if you want to add an exception for uTorrent on the Windows firewall.

If you don’t check the box above, your Windows operating system may be blocking uTorrent, which means it’s not working properly.

To solve this problem, follow these steps:

Step one: Start uTorrent on your desktop and go to Settings > Preferences (or press Ctrl + P).

Step two: Select Connection from the left menu and then select the Add Exception to Windows Firewall checkbox.

Step three: Click Apply and then click OK.

Step four: Now open the firewall software so that all uTorrent traffic goes through it.

If you are using uTorrent, we recommend that you do not disable your firewall, as this would open your desktop to malware.

Enabling the UPnP port display

UPnP stands for Universal Plug and Play, a network protocol that supports peer-to-peer communication between wireless devices and computers.

UPnP devices can communicate with other UPnP devices on the same network. In our case, uTorrent will communicate with the router.

For example, if you enable UPnP mapping, UTorrent can bypass the firewall and connect directly to Seeds, resulting in higher overall speeds.

Follow the steps below to activate it:

Step one: Open uTorrent and go to Settings > Preferences.

Step two: Select Connection, and then select Enable UPnP port mapping.

Step three: Finally, click Apply and then click OK.

Allocation of appropriate bandwidth

Before looking at how to assign bandwidth, you should know that assigning too much bandwidth slows down torrents. So you need to know the right ratio if you want to take full advantage of it.

Follow the steps below to properly allocate the bandwidth.

Step one: Open uTorrent and go to Settings > Preferences (or press Ctrl + P).

Step two: Select Bandwidth from the left menu and select the check box next to Apply rate limits to freight overhead.

Step three: You must now change the number of connections.

  • The maximum number of connections worldwide is 2329.
  • The maximum number of connected peers per torrent is 257.
  • The number of starting slots per torrent is 14.

Step four: Finally, apply the changes and click OK.

Spare connections

By default, the port used for incoming connections to uTorrent is between 6000 and 7000. And the ISPs know about this connection – they remove these ports so there’s less traffic on their network.

We therefore recommend changing the port to achieve high download speeds.

Follow the steps below to change the connection:

Step one: Open uTorrent and go to Settings > Preferences.

Step two: Select Connection in the left menu and change the port to a number between 10000 and 12000.

Step three: Click Apply and then click OK.

Pay attention: Change the port for incoming connections between 10000 and 12000 to avoid desktop conflicts.

Queue optimization

If you have been using uTorrent for a long time, you know that you can set up multiple torrents to download at the same time. But if you don’t optimize it, you’ll notice a slow speed.

Perform the following steps to optimize the uTorrent queue:

Step one: Start uTorrent on your desktop and go to Settings > Preferences.

Step two: Select Tail from the left menu.

Step three: Under Queue settings,

  • Set the maximum number of active torrents to 10,
  • Set the maximum number of active downloads to 10, and
  • Set the minimum seed ratio to 0.

Step four: Finally, click Apply and then click OK.

Hard drive cache settings

Caching always increases speed, whether it’s a web browser or a desktop hard drive. That’s why uTorrent also uses the disk cache if you haven’t turned it off.

The hard disk cache stores frequently used data in memory, allowing youTorrent to reduce the number of read and write commands to the disk.

Although uTorrent manages the cache automatically, you can change it if you have high torrent activity.

Follow these steps to change the size of the cache:

Step one: Open uTorrent and go to Settings > Preferences.

Step two: Click on Advanced in the left menu and then select Disk Cache.

Step three: By default, the option to override the automatic cache size and manually set the size (MB) is enabled, but if this is not the case, you will need to do so.

You must then assign a value (at least 512 MB).

(Assigning a small cache size can lead to overload and speed problems).

Tip: Disable Reduce memory usage when the cache is not needed to maintain the same value.

Step four: Apply the changes and then click OK.

Torrent Download Priority

As mentioned above, you can download multiple torrents at the same time. You may not know it, but you can prioritise the torrents on your list.

If you prioritize the torrent you want first, you assign Torrent more bandwidth and resources to it.

Prioritizing torrents in uTorrent is easy and you can do it by following these steps:

Step one: Open uTorrent and go to the main window.

Step two: First right click on the torrent you want to download. Move the cursor to Bandwidth Allocation and select High.

Step three: Now right click on the other current torrents. Move the cursor to Bandwidth assignment and select Low.

Pay attention: If you do not perform step 3 (skip the low bandwidth assignment), there is no difference in the download speed.

Prioritizing uTorrent in Task Manager

Many users have discovered that they achieve high download speeds for uTorrent when they set the uTorrent priority through the Windows Task Manager.

However, it increases the slow download speed compared to the above methods. If none of the above methods work for you, be sure to try them.

You can follow the steps below to set the priority of uTorrent using Task Manager.

Step one: Call the task manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del.

(Make sure the uTorrent application is running in the background).

Step two: Click on the Process button in the top menu. In the Applications section you can see all applications currently running in the background.

Step three: Right click on uTorrent and select Go to Details.

Step four: This will open another tab where youTorrent is already selected. You need to right click again, place the cursor on Set Priority and select High.

Completion

You can try one of the above methods to speed up uTorrent downloads. If you are downloading more than one torrent at a time, we recommend optimizing the queue or prioritizing torrent downloads.

Have you ever tried any of these methods? Do you have other methods to speed up the downloading of uTorrent files? Please let us know in the comment section below.
